I set a goal to read more this year, so here are the books I read this week and what I thought about each of them:

1. The Doors of Perception -

I found this book really intriguing. It's an essay by Aldous Huxley, and in it he discusses how it was after he took mescaline and how it was during that experience. It was a little bit on the slower side, which was to be expected, but it was an interesting read.

2. Acid for the Children -

This book was written by the bassist of the Red Hot Chili peppers. In it, he talks about his life from childhood all the way until later in his life as his struggles get more relatable. He also talks about his dabbling in drugs and his music.

As someone who loves rock, but doesn't listen to the Red Hot Chili Peppers often, I found this book extremely fascinating and well-paced, and I felt like I learned something new about a musician I didn't know much about. I would definitely recommend this.

3. On My Way to Liberation -

This is a chapbook of poetry by author H.Melt. It talks a lot about Trans rights and issues and makes connections back to the author's Jewish grandfather who dressed as a woman to survive the Holocaust.

While it was an intriguing read because I enjoy poetry, it definitely wasn't my cup of tea. I think this book could be interesting to some audiences, but I didn't really connect with the book or the poetry like I do with other poetry thatI truly enjoy.

I think this book could be enjoyed more by someone other than myself, but it was still interesting to hear another perspective.

4. A Coney Island of the Mind

I really enjoyed this book of poetry because it had a good rhythm while I read it, and I enjoyed how raw some of the poems were. I liked how the author, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, used "uncomfortable" words and images to describe situations and thoughts. It expanded my poetic knowledge.

I also felt like this was a satisfying read because the size of the book was large enough where I felt good about myself for reading something, but not overwhelmed by hundreds of pages.

So, there are the books I've read this week! Stay tuned for next week's books!
